How long it takes

We aim to reply within two working days. We are a small team, so occasionally it takes a little longer — but every message is answered.

I installed Pricelux and no price converts

This is almost always the same thing, and it catches nearly everyone. Safari grants an extension nothing by default. Open Pricelux once, go to Safari → Settings → Extensions, tick Pricelux, then open the drop-down beside it and choose Allow on Every Website. Reload the page afterwards.

Pricelux is not listed in Safari at all

Safari only lists extensions from an app it has been told about. Make sure Pricelux is in your Applications folder and has been opened at least once, then quit and reopen Safari.

A price on this page is not picked up

A few kinds of price cannot be found, and it is better to say which. A price drawn as an image, or painted into a canvas, is not text, so there is nothing to read. Prices inside a closed shadow root are invisible to any extension, by design. And single-letter symbols are deliberately held to a higher standard: R is only read as rand when the page itself says it prices in ZAR, because a wrong tooltip on ordinary text is worse than a missed price.

It read “$” as the wrong currency

$, ¥ and kr mean different things in different places. Pricelux first trusts what the page declares about itself, which is why a bare $ on a Canadian store reads as CAD without any setting. If a page declares nothing, it falls back to your choice — set it under Ambiguous symbols in the popup. You can also turn off Prefer the currency the site declares and decide for yourself every time.

The converted price does not match my bank

It is not meant to, until you tell it what your bank charges. Pricelux converts at the mid-market rate, which no card actually gives you. Enter your card's foreign-transaction markup — most are between 1.5% and 3% — in the popup, and every conversion from then on includes it.

Rates look out of date

Rates are fetched at most twice a day and cached so the app works offline. Press Refresh rates in the popup to fetch immediately. If both sources are unreachable, the last known rates are kept and the tooltip footer says they may be out of date rather than quietly showing stale numbers.

Keyboard shortcuts

Alt + Shift + P turns Pricelux off and on. Alt + Shift + I switches between hover and inline. If one of them does nothing, another app or the site itself has claimed that combination first.

I want it off for one site only

Open the popup while you are on that site and use the per-site switch at the bottom. Everywhere else is unaffected.

Does it work in Chrome or Firefox?

This app is for Safari. There is a separate build of Pricelens for Chrome and Firefox; a Safari extension cannot reach other browsers.

Which macOS versions are supported?

macOS 14 and later.

What to include when reporting a problem

Your macOS version, your Safari version, the address of the page, the price as it is written on the page, and which currencies you have selected. That lets us reproduce the problem far faster than a description alone.
