Frequently asked questions

Why does dbLogger need the microphone?

To measure sound. dbLogger captures raw, unprocessed audio so it reflects the true acoustic field. Audio is only saved if you turn on logging/recording, and those files stay on your device.

How accurate is it?

A phone microphone is not a certified Class 1/2 (IEC 61672) sound level meter. dbLogger is built for reproducible, calibrated relative measurement with standards-correct dBA/dBC/dBZ, octave and NR/NC math. For best results, set a calibration offset against a reference, and for compliance decisions verify with certified instrumentation.

Can I use an external microphone?

Yes — connect a USB-C measurement microphone and select it as the input. You can also choose the device’s top or bottom built-in mic.

What can I export?

You can export raw audio as WAV, metrics as CSV, and a Noise level report as PDF (and HTML), then share it from your device.

What is the Noise level report?

A one-page report with the equivalent (LAeq) and maximum levels, the measurement date, duration and (optionally) location, a frequency spectrum, and an octave-band table (63–8000 Hz) with equivalent A-weighted levels.

Why does a report show my location?

Only if you enable “Include location in reports” in Settings. It stamps where a measurement was taken — useful for site surveys. It’s off by default and the data stays on your device unless you share the report.

How do I remove ads?

dbLogger is free with a single banner ad. A one-time Remove Ads purchase hides it permanently. Bought a new phone or reinstalled? Use Restore Purchases in Settings — no account needed.

Does dbLogger work offline?

Yes. Measurement, logging and reports work fully offline. A network connection is used only to show the banner ad.
