Privacy Policy — SeniorMed
1. Summary
SeniorMed is an offline medication reminder and personal health organiser. All of the information you enter is stored only on your own device. SeniorMed has no user accounts, no servers and no cloud sync, and we — the developer — never receive, see or store your health information.
The only component that connects to the internet is the Google AdMob advertising service, which displays a banner advert and collects a limited amount of technical and advertising data. That is described in section 4.
2. Information stored on your device
You may choose to enter the following into SeniorMed. It is written to a private database inside the app's own storage area on your phone and is never transmitted anywhere by the app:
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Personal details | First and last name, phone number, date of birth, gender, height, profile photo |
| Health information | Medicine names, doses, units, instructions, schedules and reminder times; pill counts; doses marked as taken, skipped or missed; blood pressure, blood sugar, weight and heart rate readings; automatically calculated BMI |
| Medical documents | Notes about prescriptions, laboratory results, imaging reports, doctor visits and appointments, plus any photographs you attach to them |
| Contacts you add | Names, phone numbers, relationship, photo and priority of emergency contacts; names, specialities and phone numbers of doctors |
| App settings | Chosen language, text size, light/dark theme and notification-sound preference |
This information is used for one purpose only: to show it back to you and to trigger the reminders you set. It is not profiled, analysed or shared.
3. Device permissions and how they are used
Every permission is requested at the moment you first use the matching feature. You can decline any of them and continue to use the rest of the app.
| Permission | Used for | Data leaving the device |
|---|---|---|
| Notifications, Exact alarm, Vibrate, Wake lock, Run at start-up | Delivering medication and appointment reminders at the exact scheduled time, and restoring your reminders after the phone is restarted | None |
| Contacts (read) | Only when you tap "import from contacts": lets you pick one person, whose name and number are then copied into the app's own emergency-contact list | None. The rest of your address book is never read, copied or uploaded |
| Location (approximate and precise) | Only when you send an emergency SOS message and the app can obtain a position: a Google Maps link to your current location is added to the text of that message | Only to the emergency contacts you chose, inside the SMS you triggered. Never sent to us or to any server |
| Messaging (no permission required) | When you press SOS, your own messaging app opens with the emergency message and your chosen contacts already filled in. You tap send. The app does not hold the "send SMS" permission and cannot send a message on its own | The message goes through your mobile network to your own chosen contacts, only once you send it. Standard carrier charges may apply |
| Phone / dialler (no permission required) | Tapping a call button opens your dialler with the number filled in; you place the call. The app does not hold the "make calls" permission | None |
| Camera and Photos / media | Only when you attach a picture to a medical note. Pictures are copied into the app's private folder on your device | None |
| Internet and network state | Loading the advertising banner only | See section 4 |
4. Advertising (Google AdMob)
SeniorMed is free and is funded by a single banner advert supplied by Google AdMob.
To serve and measure those adverts, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects, from your device:
- your Advertising ID (a resettable identifier),
- approximate location derived from your IP address,
- device and app technical information (device model, operating-system version, app version, language, network type),
- advert-interaction events such as impressions and clicks.
This data is collected by Google, not by us. We never receive it, and we have no access to any advert profile built from it. It is handled under Google's own policies:
- Google Privacy Policy — https://policies.google.com/privacy
- How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services — https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
- Google Advertising ID policy — https://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/answer/6048248
None of your health data, medicines, notes, contacts or profile details is ever passed to AdMob or to any other advertising or analytics service.
You can limit advert personalisation on your phone at Settings → Google → Ads, where you may also delete or reset your Advertising ID.
5. Information we collect
None. We operate no server, no account system, no analytics service and no crash-reporting service. We cannot identify you and we hold no copy of anything you enter into the app.
If you choose to write to us at the address at the top of this policy, we will see your email address and whatever you tell us. We use that only to answer you, and we delete such correspondence once the matter is closed.
6. Backups you create yourself
The Settings screen lets you export a backup file (JSON) containing your records. When you do this, the file is created on your device and Android's normal share sheet opens so you can decide where it goes — for example your own cloud drive, an email to yourself or a memory card.
Once you send that file somewhere, it is outside the app and this policy no longer governs it. It is an unencrypted plain-text file containing health information, so please store it somewhere private.
This app opts out of Android's own "Backup by Google One" (android:allowBackup="false"), so your medicines, readings, notes and attached pictures are not copied to your Google account. The export above is the only way your records leave the device, and it happens only when you ask for it. The trade-off is deliberate: it also means a new phone does not restore this data automatically, so export a backup before you switch devices.
7. How long data is kept, and how to delete it
Your records stay on your device for as long as you keep them. You are in complete control:
- Delete one item — remove any medicine, health reading, note or contact from within the app.
- Delete everything — Settings → Danger Zone → Delete account erases all data the app holds.
- Uninstall — removing SeniorMed deletes its database and attached photos from your device.
Because we never receive your data, there is no copy anywhere for us to delete, and no deletion request needs to be sent to us.
8. Security
Your records are held in the app's private storage area, which Android isolates from other apps. No health information leaves your device through the app, so it is never exposed in transit.
Please note that a device without a screen lock, or one that has been rooted, weakens this protection. We recommend keeping a PIN, pattern or biometric lock on your phone.
9. Children
SeniorMed is intended for adults and is not designed for or directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, data-protection law (such as the UK GDPR, the EU GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act) gives you rights of access, correction, deletion, portability and objection.
Because SeniorMed keeps your information solely on your own device, you exercise all of these rights directly inside the app: you can view, edit, export and delete everything at any time, without asking us. We are not able to act on your data because we never hold it.
For the advertising data described in section 4, your rights are exercised with Google, using the links in that section and your phone's Ads settings.
11. Medical disclaimer
SeniorMed is a personal organiser and reminder tool. It is not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any illness and it does not provide medical advice. Reminders may be delayed or missed for reasons outside the app's control, including a flat battery, a switched-off phone, or the battery-saving and app-restriction settings of your device. Never rely on the app alone for a critical dose, and never change a medicine or a dose because of anything shown in the app. Always follow your doctor or pharmacist. In an emergency, contact your local emergency service directly.
12. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be published at this same address with a new "Last updated" date, and — where the change is significant — noted in the app's release notes. Continuing to use SeniorMed after a change means you accept the updated policy.
